Most war games make you the general. I wanted the opposite: you're one of the ten thousand guys whose bones pile up so someone else gets a statue.
One of Ten Thousand — https://oitt.life
You draw lots for your era, country and family background — Sengoku Japan, Napoleon's army, the late Roman Republic, the Three Kingdoms, Ming China, the Viking Age, the American West (plus a few optional expansion eras). Then you start at the very bottom and try to survive one historical battle after another.
Things you can do:
-
Decide each year where to put your effort, how to fight, and which way to go when life forks
-
When you die, raise a gravestone with your last words in a shared graveyard other players can visit
-
Daily Lot: everyone gets the same life that day, see who gets furthest
-
Leaderboards for merit, wealth and longest life (scores are re-simulated on the server, so no editing your way to the top)
-
Pass the family on to your kid and keep the bloodline going
It's free, runs in the browser, no sign-up, works on mobile, and is in 14 languages. There are optional paid expansion eras and cosmetic stuff, but nothing that makes your character stronger.
It's a solo project and still a prototype, so numbers and story will keep changing. I'd love to hear how your first life went
GenAI disclosure: I built this with heavy help from an AI assistant (Claude). It was used for writing most of the code, drafting event and story text, translating the game into 14 languages, and helping draft this post. The game itself doesn't use any AI while you play: everything runs on hand-tuned rules and historical data, and the pixel art is drawn by code rather than generated images. Design, historical research direction, balancing, and all the decisions about what goes in were mine.
