Hi r/iosapps, I'm the solo developer of ImmerGround.

A) What it does and who it's for

I wanted visuals that react to music on my phone, without needing a laptop or learning a node editor. ImmerGround listens to sound and drives the visuals live.

Sound input: Your microphone, songs from Files or your music library (with setlists), or a MIDI controller over USB-C or Bluetooth. On Mac, it can follow music playing in any other app.

Visuals: 28 shaders that are already mapped to music when you open them. The bass drives the motion, while the song's energy drives patterns and colours. You can also load your own video clips or photos and let the bass, mids, highs and individual kicks drive effects like glitch, strobe, thermal, kaleidoscope and ASCII.

Play it: Map any sound or MIDI knob to any effect, trigger looks from pads, jump to specific moments in a clip using Video Cues, and send the output to a TV or projector over HDMI or AirPlay.

Keep it: Every session is recorded, and you can render it again later in up to 4K.

It supports 15 languages, and shader presets let you save an entire look with one tap.

It's made for DJs who want visuals on a screen behind them, musicians creating clips for their tracks, and anyone who enjoys watching music.

B) How it compares to the alternatives

Resolume, TouchDesigner and Synesthesia: These are desktop applications for Windows and Mac, starting at €299 for Resolume Avenue or $199 for Synesthesia Standard. TouchDesigner also has a free non-commercial licence. They offer much more for large-scale shows, including projection mapping, node patching, NDI and Syphon. ImmerGround doesn't offer those features. Its advantage is that it runs directly on your iPhone or iPad, and the visuals react to music immediately without needing to configure anything first.

Imaginando VS 2 ($39.99 one-time, iPad only): A deeper visual synth with layers, custom shaders and NDI support. ImmerGround also works on iPhone and Mac, has a free tier, and lets you work with your own video clips and photos.

100VJ ($3.99 plus in-app purchases) and TouchViZ ($9.99, iPad only): Clip-mixing VJ apps. 100VJ offers more venue-oriented features like projection mapping, NDI and DMX. ImmerGround focuses on shaders that react to music out of the box, with mappings presented as a simple, readable list.

VJ Live (free, with in-app purchases ranging from $2.99 per week to $49.99): Probably the closest alternative in terms of pricing and platform availability, as it supports iPhone, iPad and Mac. It's built around arranging loops and your own videos, whereas ImmerGround focuses on shaders and mapping music or MIDI inputs to visual effects.
